East Central Tuscaloosa

East Central Tuscaloosa generally refers to the area of Tuscaloosa south of Jack Warner Parkway NE and the Black Warrior River, east of McFarland Boulevard, and north of Loop Road and Old Birmingham Hwy, including the Alberta City neighborhood and the community of Holt.

 

Attractions:

There are several attractions in this area of Tuscaloosa. Tuscaloosa Veterans Memorial Park, located in front of University Mall, includes exhibits such as the Honor Roll of Veterans Wall and the mast of the USS Tuscaloosa CA37. Housed in the historic Queen City Park Pool Bathhouse on Jack Warner Parkway, the Mildred Westervelt Warner Transportation Museum features the transportation history of the Black Warrior River, lock and dam development, stagecoach line, horse drawn carriages, electric streetcars, bicycle history, railroad and other transportation related topics that gave rise to the City of Tuscaloosa’s development. Also located on Jack Warner Parkway is the Tuscaloosa Museum of Art (Home of the Westervelt Collection). The museum includes the holdings of Tuscaloosa businessman Jack Warner and includes interior furnishings dating from 1700-1865. Recognized as one of the most extensive collections of 19th and early 20th century American art, the Warner Collection displays more than 150 works of art. Finally, Snow Hinton Park centers around a one-mile walking trail for exercisers to enjoy.

 

Shopping:

Located in East Central Tuscaloosa is the University Mall, which features a wide variety of favorite national, regional and local stores, located in a comfortable, indoor environment. Stores include Belk, The Limited, Bath and Body Works, Sears, J.C. Penny and many more. The University Mall also has a large food-court with fan-favorites such as Taco Casa and Sbarro Pizza. Super Target is also located in East Central Tuscaloosa.

 

Dining:

Among other dining options in the area, there are a couple of popular choices that are must-go’s! Famous for their fabulous French food coupled with dim lighting, jazz music, and a pure romantic dining experience, Kozy’s is a local favorite for a great fine-dining experience. Baumhower’s Restaurant also has some of the best wings in town and is a fun gathering spot for Alabama game-day social outings! Summer Snow and Dippin’ Dots, two of Tuscaloosa’s most popular choices for a quick treat or dessert, are also located in East Central Tuscaloosa.
